How to Take Care of Your Natural Hair in the Summer| Summer Hair Care Tips

After spending months inside wearing protective hairstyles because of the cold, winter weather, it’s now time to go outside and enjoy the sun!

The summer season is the perfect time to wear your natural crown, just don't neglect your hair in the process! Here are some tips to help you take care of your hair and keep it healthy and shiny this season.

Seal The Moisture

During the summer, we can let our hair dry naturally in the sun, rather than using an air dryer, so, we might forget to keep it moisturized. A good way to seal in moisture is to use a hair butter or hair gel. A 100% oil-based hair butter will bind to the natural oils in your hair and will trap water before it can escape. A natural hair gel will keep your curls defined while preventing frizz and locking in moisture. The best part is, you can put both these products in your hair while it's still wet, so you can go out and enjoy the sun while they do their work!

Protect Your Hair From The Sun

Did you know that your hair can also get sunburned? On a sunny day, it's important to protect your hair with a hat or scarf, especially if you spend a lot of time outside. Another way to keep your hair safe is to use shea butter which has natural UV filtering properties. In other words, it shields your hair from sun damage. A hair butter or conditioner enriched with shea butter will save your hair from sunburn.

Use a Co-wash

In the summer time, it's easy to work up a sweat. This makes us take more showers and wash our hair more often. This doesn't have to be a bad thing though. With a co-wash, you can actually clean your hair and still keep it nourished. A co-wash can be used up to three times a week in your weekly hair routine. After using a co-wash, make sure to apply a leave-in conditioner to hydrate and detangle your hair. Then, use either a hair butter or hair gel, to define your curls and keep them moisturized.

Keep Yourself Hydrated

Do not forget to drink plenty of water and eat a lot of fruits. Cantaloupe and watermelon, for example, contain a lot of water and are refreshing on hot summer days. Now you're ready to soak up the sun this summer!
